We love these shelves for our lego enthusiast son! This is our 4th set. We normally get them on Amazon but they were out of stock so we ordered directly this time.
I've built a few of these for my boys over the years, but never this big, of great quality, and really allows you to show of your builds! The shelf and the display stand make an awesome combo!
These shelves are ginormous. They stick out a good way out from the wall which is a concern in my 7-year-old's smaller bedroom. He has a lot of Legos and likes to keep his sets out once he's built them, so I thought this would be the perfect solution. However, we are having trouble figuring out where to hang them.
They are also very heavy which concerns me that if they fell off the wall and fell onto one of my kids they could get injured pretty badly. I would definitely recommend putting them in a stud for sure, especially once you add the weight of the Lego sets that are on them. Luckily most of his are fairly small for now, but as he gets older I'm sure they will get bigger.
They appear to be sturdy and well built. But I worry about the structure since there is no additional support other than the back lip where the screws go into the wall. If there was an extra bracket or something underneath the shelf, I would feel better about it. I'm not sure we will end up hanging these in my son's room, maybe somewhere else where there is not as much danger of them falling.
I've got quite a few LEGO sets that I've built over the years. I'm the kind of guy who likes to build once and let it just display, instead of taking them apart and dumping them into a bin. This helps me get these sets off the shelf and onto the wall, freeing up space for ... more builds! I was skeptical about the mounting system when I first ordered them but realistically, its just easy and works out without any issue at all. A couple quick drywall anchors and you're all set. I wouldn't recommend anything heavy like a building on these, but for smaller sets like cars, dragons, some Star Wars stuff that I've got - they work out just fine. Really enjoy them, glad I picked them up.
I frequently get my wife lego kits as gifts. We've run out of places to display these kits, so I ordered these shelves. The shelves look nice. They're sturdy and come with the hardware needed to secure them to the wall. The pre-drilled holes are a nice touch. The baseplates, however, make this impossible to use. I could place smaller kits on the baseplate. The baseplate is tight and so a lot of force is needed to get the completed kit to stick. I was unable to place larger kits on the baseplate. I tried placing the NES kit on there, but could not. It felt as if the baseplate was slightly too wide. The larger the kit, the more difficult it was to place. I might be able to use it anyway as a regular shelf, but I was disappointed with the precision of the base plate.
